1st Arrival In New York City, USA πΊπΈ (Chaotic?)
B1
I have just arrived in New York City for
the very first time. And in this video,
I will show you what it's like to arrive
in the biggest city of the USA as a
foreign tourist. My goals for today,
figure out how to get into Manhattan,
have a classic American breakfast, ride
one of those iconic yellow caps, visit
the world famous Time Square, and
finally make it to my hotel.
>> If you really want to live the way I
feel, I literally feel like I'm in a
movie right now. But there are two
problems. First, I have no idea how
complicated it will be to actually get
into the city. I just had a 31 hours
journey to get here. I'm tired and
everything already feels a bit
overwhelming. Okay, maybe I am on the
wrong one train.
>> Yeah, 80%.
>> Yeah, that's a minimum.
>> Minimum. I don't understand American
tipping culture. Second, I have dreamed
of visiting New York City since I was a
kid and now I am a bit worried that it
may not live up to the hype. Shooting at
New York Times Square. I'm literally
right in front of the Times Square now.
So, what is it really like to arrive in
the most iconic city in America for the
first time? And will New York be
everything I dreamed of? Or will it
disappoint? Let's find out. Feel free to
join.
All right, here I am. I literally just
got through immigration. And I am at the
New Walk airport, which technically is
not even New York City yet. It's in New
Jersey. So, I have to find a way how to
get into Manhattan now. So, we have
different options now. There are taxis
outside, but I think I can also get a
train. Trains to the city. Yeah. Let's
figure out how to get the train into
Manhattan. I am now on level two.
Transit to city. G. Where's G? 1 2 3.
>> You going down?
>> I don't know. Which floor is this?
>> Uh, the second.
>> The second. I want to go to G, but
there's no G here.
>> Maybe you need to take the other
elevator.
>> You want to go down?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, I'm definitely not going down. All
right, that was a bit confusing. Maybe
my brain is also not working properly
anymore. I literally just had a 31 hours
journey to get here. If you saw the
previous video, then you know the
journey. So, I have to figure out
everything while being very tired. Okay,
that doesn't make sense. 1 2 3. But
where's G? This literally doesn't make
sense. Trains to the city. Maybe the
trains are up here, not the elevators.
Okay, let me take the escalator. Excuse
me.
>> Yes.
>> Is this a train to Manhattan?
>> Yes. Take the train to the train
station. Buy your ticket from Penn
Station.
>> Okay. Thank you so much. All right. So,
we have the air train here. And I think
Yeah. What the lady just said. I have to
take this train to another station and
then connect from there to Manhattan
Penn Station. New York in 9 minutes.
Let's see. English. New York Penn
Station. Oh, there's also New York Penn
Station. Sounds very similar, but I want
to go to New York Penn Station. One way.
The price is $17. Let's hope I can pay
with my phone. Oh, yes, I can. Your
ticket is being printed. All right, that
was easy so far. I do have a ticket to
New York. All right, so that was $17.
And I think that should bring me right
into the heart of Manhattan, Penn
Station. I think that's right in the
center. And then from there, I have to
figure out how to get to my hotel, which
is right next to Time Square. And yeah,
I'm very, very excited to visit the
Times Square later today. One of the
most famous places in America, maybe
even the most famous place in America.
So, I'm very looking forward to that.
Even though I'm actually dead tired
after the long journey, but the
excitement in me is h quite high. All
right. And here we have the Air Train.
Let's see how long it takes until the
next one comes. Okay, I just asked the
gentleman over there. I have to take
this train now for three stops or I have
to get out at the third stop and then
I'm changing to the actual train into
Manhattan. All right. And literally a
minute later, the train is here. That
looks like a very tiny train. Look at
that. Literally four seats only. I guess
this is like just a train connecting the
different terminals here. Not an actual
train, you know. Yeah. Here we are. I'm
at terminal B. 1 2 3. And this is my
stop, the actual train station.
>> The next stop is Ter United
International.
>> All right. And here we are. That was
literally a ride of 5 minutes. Now I'm
at the train station to transit into New
York City. Okay. Trains to New York.
Okay. Let's see how I can figure this
out. Oh, I'm wondering how empty it is
here. Is nobody taking these trains?
Almost the only person here. Let's see.
I just scan it. No. Scan barcode face
up. How do I scan it? Excuse me. How do
I scan the ticket?
>> Scan face up like that.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, okay. Yeah, maybe my brain is just
not properly working anymore. I'm
literally dead tired. Just the
excitement of being in New York for the
first time keeps me awake at the moment.
TX 1A New York. Okay, so I'm not sure
when the next train is coming. I don't
see any signs here. There's nothing
here. Why is there nothing on the
screen? Like next train in 5 minutes, 6
minutes, whatever. It confuses me a bit
to be honest that I'm literally the only
person here and that there's no sign of
like when the next train is coming.
Please don't tell me that I'm at the
wrong side and this is my train. Oh,
actually there is a screen here. Oh, how
to figure this out. So, the time is now
1:15. So, there's a train coming at
1:18. New York. Is that the next one? At
2. That's like an hour away. New York. I
think 1:32. That should be the next one
for me then. Oh, 118 also says New York.
But what is SEC? Oh, there's no no staff
here to ask. New York SEC. Can I take
that train? I mean, it says New York,
right? Maybe there's Steph on the train
that I can ask them. Okay, this is the
118 train. Let's see if I can find
somebody to ask. I think it could be
this train. Maybe this one, but I'm not
sure. Yeah, the guys over there also
confused. Let's see. Is there somebody
working on the train? Excuse me. Is this
train going to New York?
>> Yes.
>> To Penn Station?
>> Yes.
>> Yes.
>> 100%.
>> I believe so.
>> Okay. Thank you. Okay. Yeah, I think I
am on the right train now. So, do I
trust that guy? I would feel better if I
find somebody who actually works on the
train. It actually looks like a proper
train, not just the subway. Oh, we're
moving already. So, okay. Let's hope I
am on the right train then. Excuse me.
Is this train going to Penn Station in
New York?
>> Next stop.
>> That's New York, right? Yes.
>> But New York Manhattan.
>> No, this is New York.
>> Not New York Manhattan.
>> No.
>> No.
>> Okay. Okay. Maybe I am on the train.
Okay, now two people, two different
opinions or statements, but it's too
late to change the train now. Let's see
where I will end up.
Okay, last thing I want to know is being
on the wrong train and ending up
completely somewhere else. And yeah, I'm
feeling so so excited to be in New York
City. Visiting the city is literally a
dream I had since I was a kid. I
remember as a child always watching
these American movies that play in New
York City. One of my favorite movies,
for example, was Home Alone 2, which
yeah, literally plays in the city. And
then one of my favorite serieses is How
I Met Your Mother, which also plays here
in New York City. I grew up listening to
a lot of hip-hop music from New York
City, 50 Cent for example. So yeah,
being in the city now is an absolute
dream of mine. And I'm so excited to
explore the city in the next days. And
then I'm actually going to stay in the
United States for the next few weeks. So
there are going to be several more
videos coming. So if you're new here and
you haven't subscribed yet, feel free to
do so to follow the journey. Okay. Okay,
we just made a stop and yeah, this would
be my last chance I think to get off and
switch to another train. Yeah, the train
itself looks actually quite nice. The
seats are comfortable. Looks fairly new
here to be honest. Just the windows are
pretty uh blurry and dirty. So, not
really great for first time visitors who
want to see the city while riding on the
train. But that's okay. I'm not really
serious about that, but you can see what
I mean, right? But other than that, good
first impressions of the trains here in
America. And yeah, to show you the
journey on the map. So, New Walk, the
airport where I started is right here.
We are here now and yeah, New York City,
Manhattan is right here and Ken station
should be right here in the center. So,
so far we are going in the right
direction. I have to say it looks pretty
rubble so far for being a train into the
biggest city in America. Yeah, we just
uh made the second stop. So, the next
stop is already Penn Station in
Manhattan. So, actually, I was expecting
to see some some skyscrapers pretty
soon, but so far it looks like a train
through the villages. Okay, we are
inside a tunnel now. This should be
underneath the Hudson River. So, right
after this tunnel, we should be already
in Manhattan. All right, here we are.
Looks like the whole station is
underground. So, I haven't had a glimpse
yet of Manhattan of any skyscrapers or
the skyline. Yeah, the total journey
from the airport to get here was about
half an hour now. So, let's see if I can
find my way out of the station. And then
we should be right in the center of
Manhattan. Actually, first thing I
noticed here, it's pretty hot in here.
Oh, I just wanted to say there's no air
con here, but there literally is one.
That was refreshing. But yeah, how to
get out of the station? This seems to be
a pretty large station. So, probably
this is already pen station now, but
there's no sign for exit. Medicine
Square Garden. That's already a famous
place. Subway. Maybe. Yeah. Get to the
streets up here. Okay. Okay. So, I see a
red exit sign there. I see another exit
sign there. This is 7th Avenue. Well,
now it would be good to know which
avenue I should get out. I have no idea.
This is 8th Avenue and 31st Street.
What's the difference between Avenue and
Street? Anyone from the US can let me
know in the comments because yeah, AV is
Avenue and ST is street. Let's just get
out here. Oh, yes. This is the moment.
Oh, finally being inside New York City.
Here we are, guys. Wow.
Oh, and the sun is shining. It's a
beautiful day. Look at this. Oh, there
are some pretty lowflying birds. NYPD
New York hot dogs right away here.
Street food. Oh, to be honest, I was not
expecting that the first thing I see in
Manhattan is going to be street food. We
have hot dogs right here. We have tacos
here and burgers. Oh wow. Oh my god. I'm
so excited to be in New York.
>> What's going on, man? Are you Ken?
>> Ken,
>> dude, I'm a big fan of you. I see you.
>> Are you from New York?
>> I'm from New Jersey.
>> I'm literally just arriving in New York.
>> Dude, welcome. It's
>> Thank you so much. I'm just uh saying in
the video what a cool feeling to be in
Manhattan for the first time.
>> Yeah.
>> Wow. I love it here,
>> dude. I think you're going to like it. I
mean, like you've been to some like
crazy places. So,
>> what's your name?
>> Uh Luke.
>> Luke.
>> Yeah.
>> Very nice to meet you, Luke.
>> Nice to meet you, man.
>> Okay, I have a look around.
>> Thank you very much.
>> Yeah, dude.
>> Okay. Have a good day around. I'm
literally getting recognized right away
in New York. Okay. I actually think this
is what's the name again. This is a
famous train station here. Okay. I have
to calm down a bit. Too much excitement
is not good. I need to think how I can
get to my uh hotel now and how I can get
to Time Square. But I'm really enjoying
this. And look at this. We have yellow
taxis here. Very iconic for New York.
You remember my Los Angeles video from a
few weeks ago? I was looking to ride an
iconic yellow cap. And then actually
many of you guys in the comment section
told me the yellow caps are more of a
New York thing. So here I am now. Yellow
caps. Actually, I think my first mission
now is to get some food. And I saw on
Google Maps before that there's an
American diner around here. And I will
be keen to have a very typical American
diner breakfast experience. Oh my god.
No way. Look at that. Do you know what
that building is? Wow. This is the world
famous Empire State Building. Wow. I
can't believe I'm here. Seeing this
building for the first time with your
own eyes, that is something very
special. One of the most iconic
buildings in the United States. Built, I
think, nearly 100 years ago. Wow.
Oh my god, what a happy day. Yeah, this
literally is my dream since I was a
child visiting New York City. And look
at all the buildings around us.
I need a little moment. This is awesome.
And thank you guys. You guys who are
watching my videos are the ones who make
this possible. Because of you, I can
travel. I'm sharing my experiences with
you on my channel here. you guys like to
watch the videos and that's how I'm able
to uh to do all these journeys. So,
thank you guys. Thank you very much.
Really appreciate all your support over
the past years. Okay, let's find some
food. Good. I'm going to eat street food
at some point in New York as well. But
now I want to find this American diner
that I looked up before on Google Maps.
And by the way, I think this building
here is Yeah. the Madison Square Garden,
which is also actually quite a famous
place. I think the New York Knicks, the
basketball team from New York is playing
inside this stadium then. So, it is a
stadium, a basketball stadium. We do
have a red light there, but it seems
like most people don't really care about
that. Yeah, literally nobody is
stopping. And you know what's also
funny? Earlier at the airport when I was
at the immigration counter, the officer
asked me, "What's the purpose of your
visit?" And I said, "Well, tourism. I
would like to see one of the most famous
cities in the world." And then he
replied with, "New York is not only one
of the most famous cities in the world,
it is the best city in the world."
That's literally what he said. So, I
have the impression that uh Americans
are very proud of not only of their
country but also of their cities. If
you're an American watching this, let me
know if that's true. And yeah, I also
notice a lot of police officers around
at the traffic lights here. I saw some
more over there already. And plenty of
street food carts, but I would like to
get a proper meal. And here is the place
that I looked up before. I think it's
the this place right here. So, we do
have uh the Tik Tok diner here. Let's
see. Okay. How do I go inside? Oh, right
here. All right. Let's see if I can get
a proper American breakfast here. All
right. First impression here. It looks
like a typical American diner to me. And
yeah, this is going to be my first time
in such an American diner. You
>> like something to drink first?
>> Just water on the side as well.
Actually, I have a question. What is
typical American breakfast? I would like
to try something very typical.
>> Just eggs, bacon, ham, or sausage.
>> Bacon, ham, and sausage.
>> We have bagels here as well.
>> Yeah. Okay. I have a look. Okay. Thank
you. All right. So, uh, she recommended
or she said toast and eggs, I think if I
understood her correctly, is what is
typical here. But I think I heard that
bagels are very famous in New York. And
yeah, look at that. Literally, the first
thing I see on the menu is toasted bagel
with cream cheese. So, I think I'm going
to try that. And then we have breakfast
sandwiches here. X benedict from the
griddle. Actually, I don't know what a
griddle is. Waffles. Waffles are also
very famous or popular in America,
right? So maybe I'm going to go with a
bagel and a waffle. Oh, we also have
salad bowls here. Wraps. Daily classic.
I'm not sure what di is. Maybe this is a
type of sandwich because I think these
are all sandwiches here. Oh, and of
course also burgers, fish and chips,
Italian food. Epic sandwiches. Oh, lots
of options here. And we also have
pancakes. Now I'm wondering what is more
popular, pancakes or warills. There's
waffle with chicken here, which sounds
interesting to me. Are we going to get
classical pancakes? Let me know in the
comments what's more popular to eat,
waffles or pancakes. Um, I would like to
have the toasted bagel. Is it like a
very big one or small?
>> Medium size. Not too big, not too small.
>> Okay, then that one, please. And then
the chicken and waffles.
>> Would you like to start with a bagel?
>> Uh, you can bring it at the same time.
Together.
>> Yeah, together. Okay, that's it. Thank
you very much.
>> Okay. And it actually feels very good to
uh sit down now, take a little rest
because Yeah, I am getting really tired
by now. But I can actually say that my
whole arrival process at the airport
earlier was actually quite smooth and
easy. And one of the reasons why it was
so easy and stress-free for me was that
I was connected to the internet right
away after I landed. I didn't have to
search for a local SIM card. So
literally while I was still sitting in
the plane, I could send WhatsApp
messages to my family, to my girlfriend
that I have arrived. I could use the
internet already. And that is because I
am using an ESIM. And eim is basically a
digital SIM card that you can install to
your phone even before you start a
journey. And I started using ESIMs about
one and a half years ago. And since
then, I'm literally using them in every
country I go to. So I never waste time
searching for local SIM cards. I don't
waste money on high roaming fees. And
I'm getting all my eims from a company
called Olafly. It works super simple.
Just choose your destination. They have
over 200 destinations available. Choose
your data plan. What I really like about
Olafly is that they have many data plans
with unlimited data. So, I'm having an
unlimited data plan for the United
States. So, the whole time I'm here, I
don't have to worry about how much data
I've used already, which is especially
great. For example, if your hotel Wi-Fi
is a bit slow, then I can just switch to
my mobile data and I don't need to worry
about anything. So, I downloaded and
installed my American Eim already a few
days ago. Olafly tells you exactly step
by step how to do everything. It's very
simple. So, if you have an upcoming
journey as well, I highly recommend to
get an Olafly Eim as well. And if you
want to check out Holafly as well if you
click the link in the description or on
the pin comment, you can even get a
special discount which you can also get
by simply applying the code can abroad
at checkout when purchasing the Olafly
EIM either on their website or on their
app. Just make sure that your phone
actually does support EIMS, but most
phones nowadays do. Okay, thank you very
much. Oh wow, that looks huge. Oh, I was
underestimating the sizes of food in
America, I think. So, what are we having
here? We have a bagel which uh nothing
on side. So, I think I have to add the
cream cheese, which is this one. And
then we also have this is jam grape
jelly. Okay. So, oh, that looks like
very toasted actually. Very crispy.
Looking forward to try that. And then
something I've never seen before in my
life. Waffles with chicken on top. I
don't know, but in Germany, I associate
waffles with something sweet. So,
usually in Germany, we eat waffles with
like a sweet topping like chocolate
sauce or vanilla ice cream. So, this is
actually my first time seeing waffles
with chicken on top. And then what are
we having here? Breakfast syrup and
butter. Yeah, let me know in the
comments how typical is this as a
breakfast or as a meal in general in
America, actually. Okay, I'm going to
start with uh the bagel. So, first of
all, I'm a bit surprised that I have to
uh spread the cream cheese on it myself.
But at least by doing that, I can adjust
how much I want because I usually like
there's like less less sauce, less jam,
and less cream cheese. And then I'm
wondering because I also have uh the
jelly, should I put it together? Maybe.
Let me do that. Adding the the jam as
well. Smells good. So, cream cheese and
jam. I think a combination I've never
eaten before. Generally, cream cheese is
not that popular in Germany where I'm
from, but uh let's give it a try.
Okay, first of all, I really like the
bagel itself. Very fluffy, then a bit
crispy on the outside. Oh, the bagel
alone is is really good already. And
then the cream cheese flavor is actually
not that big. So I'm mainly tasting the
the dough flavor from the bagel. But
this is this is really good. And yeah, I
heard bagels are very popular here in
New York or very famous for New York.
And I'm wondering what is actually the
most popular type of bagel. What do you
usually put on a bagel? Maybe you can
give me some recommendations like do you
put cheese on it for example or lettuce?
Maybe ham as well. I could imagine ham
and cheese actually would go well on
this. Okay. And now the chicken and the
waffles. So, first of all, the chicken
pieces are looking huge. I'm actually
not sure if I can finish all of this,
even though I'm hungry. But yeah, I want
to bite just into the chicken first.
Let's see how good just the chicken
tastes.
Oh, the chicken alone is very juicy,
very flavorful. I don't know what type
of spices they put around it, but it
tastes really good. But I'm not really
sure how you eat the chicken together
with the waffle now, and if that even
makes sense to put it together. So, you
know what I'm going to try now? I'm
going to try to just add a piece of the
chicken on a piece of the waffle and
let's see how well that goes together.
Combination I never ate before. Let's
give it a try. Yeah, it's a bit weird.
Not saying it's bad, but the waffle
tastes very sweet. And then you have the
totally different flavor from the
chicken. Actually, let me try the waffle
just plain. Oh, the waffle flavor is
amazing. M. Very doughy, very sweet.
Actually, I think I'm going to add the
breakfast syrup to the waffle. Looks a
bit like honey. So, let me pour it over
here. Yeah, it actually looks like
honey. Maybe a bit more liquid compared
to honey. Honey is a bit thicker. And
then let's try the waffle with the
cigarette.
Okay, it's definitely way thinner than
honey and not that flavorful to be
honest. But I actually think I would
prefer or I do prefer the waffle plain
without the syrup. So, the chicken is
very good. The waffle is very good. I
just don't see why I would put it
together. So, I'm actually going to eat
it separately. All right. To be honest,
I was not able to finish the whole
portion. I think I was underestimating
the American meal sizes, but let's see
how much I have to pay for this. How
much tip is normally here?
>> But we work like at least 15 18%. So,
it's like $5.
>> So, 18 is normal.
>> Yeah, that's minimum.
>> Minimum.
>> Yeah, that's the maximum like 25.
>> What do most people give in America as
tips?
>> I'm not going to say generally give you
this, this, this, this. People like, you
know, everybody is not the same. Mostly
they say like 18. So the the total is
3179.
Let's do 40 then.
>> Okay.
>> Thank you very much.
>> All right. To be honest, I'm feeling
very very full now. That was a very
heavy meal. I think I probably just ate
the whole calorie meat of my whole day.
But I don't understand American tipping
culture. So to my understanding, it is
basically required to tip here. Like the
just told me like 18% minimum is
required. And I'm a bit confused about
that because where I'm from in Germany,
tipping is always optional. It's not
required. But yeah, I did hear before
that tipping is very important here in
America. So I'm confused now. Let me
know in the comments, please. What is a
usual tip that you give when you're
eating in a restaurant? I heard that
usually around 20% is what is required
or what is common. And I also heard that
some raers can get really rude if you
don't tip them appropriately. And that
to be honest confuses me a lot because
yeah where I'm from tipping is always
optional. And when I was a student I
also used to work as a waiter on the
side in a restaurant. So I know
personally how it feels when somebody
tips you or somebody doesn't tip you.
And I remember like when somebody gave
me a tip I was happy about that of
course but when somebody didn't leave a
tip or only a small amount that was
still okay for me not a big problem
because I didn't really rely on the
tipping. But I think here in America,
raars really rely on the tipping that
they get from the customers. But I also
find it weird. For example, in my hotel
in Los Angeles a few weeks ago, there
was like a little mini mud in the lobby
area and that was completely without
staff. So you choose the items yourself
and then there was a register. You scan
the items yourself and then you just pay
by swiping or tapping your credit card.
And I remember I choose some items. I
scanned them myself and then the screen
showed me my total amount and there was
a popup asking for a tip and I was like
why should I tip this screen now this
machine for doing all the work myself.
So that was very confusing. And also
when I ordered a coffee in a Starbucks
for example, they asked me like they
turned around the screen the counter
where I paid with my credit card and the
screen was asking for a tip. And in my
head I was like making a coffee takes
like a minute and then you bring it over
from the machine to my counter and for
just doing that she asked for 20% tip.
And another thing I really don't
understand. So, when you are required to
pay 20% of your total bill in tip, let's
say I'm eating a $50 meal, then 20% of
that would be $10, right? And let's say
I'm ordering a $200 meal, then 20% of
that would be $40. But the work that the
RA has is exactly the same, just
carrying the item from the kitchen to my
counter. So, why should I pay $40
instead of $10 tip just because I
ordered a more expensive meal? But yeah,
since I am in America, I do as the
locals do. So I am tipping here. So I
think I I just tipped him on a $30 bill.
I gave 40. So that was more than 20%. I
would just like to understand it. So if
you are from America, please explain
that in the comments. But yeah, now I
would like to get to Time Square and I
think it's actually even walkable. I
think down the road and then right. Oh,
what is this? Oh, look at that. That
looks interesting. Looks like a wick
shop that you can see in like India for
example. a bit different here, but
similar. Okay, so let's see. So, Time
Square is down the road here, I think. I
think it's walkable. It would be like 15
to 20 minutes, but yeah, I'm feeling so
full from the meal now. And I wanted to
have a yellow New York taxi experience
anyway. So, let's see if I can find a
taxi. And we do have plenty of yellow
taxis waiting here. So, this one is
already taken. I think it's a taxi line
here. So, I just get into the next
available one.
Hello. Hello. Good afternoon. I'm going
to Time Square, please. Time Square.
>> Time Square. Yes. All right. So, yeah,
we are right next to Medicine Square
Garden. And I think it's going to be
like a 10 15 minutes ride from here,
depending on the traffic, of course. And
yeah, I do feel a bit like in a movie,
like with the the plastic uh separation
here. I saw that in movies before. I
think that's very typical in New York.
Are you from New York, sir?
>> I'm living here. Yes.
>> My first time in New York. I'm very
happy to be here. Yes.
>> Where you came from?
>> I'm from Germany.
>> You're Frankfurt?
>> Not Frankfurt? No, I'm from a small
village in North Germany. Where are you
from? Pakistan.
>> From Pakistan. Oh, I've been to Pakistan
last year.
>> Oh, really?
>> Yeah. I was in Karachi and Lahore.
>> Oh, really? Lor?
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> How do you like?
>> Very nice hospitality. The people in
Pakistan are amazing. Yeah. Pakistani
hospitality uh is still in my head since
then.
>> Yes. But you just visit or you a
business?
>> No. No. Just visiting.
>> Just visiting.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Pakistan doesn't have many
tourists. I know.
>> But I was curious to see it.
>> So you going to Time Square to see just
one? Just Time Square to see?
>> Yeah. I want to see Time Square. Yeah.
Yeah, it's one of the most famous places
here, right?
>> Right.
>> Yeah. I'm just seeing there's even a
screen here where you can see I think
it's advertisement, but also your fair.
So, currently it's $1125. So, you can
always uh check how much you have to
pay. And then I'm actually not sure are
you also required to uh tip taxis in
America or does it only go for like
restaurant situations? But yeah, traffic
here seems to be busy. Look at it. And a
lot of yellow taxis here. Exactly how I
would have imagined that. I remember
when I watched the movies as a kid, like
the streets in New York and the movies
were always full with yellow taxis.
Although, I have to say the taxis that
I'm seeing here, the yellow ones are
looking very different compared to the
movies I saw as a child. And I think the
taxis in the movies looked way cooler.
Let me show you what I mean. Yeah. So,
these were the cars like in the '90s,
like this one. I think this type of car
looks so cool. This is I think it's a
car from like the '90s or maybe even
older from the ' 80s or '7s, but they
look so like a square, you know, and I
really like these typical American
square cars. Unfortunately, I don't see
those cars around here anymore. I think
they disappeared after the '90s. But
that would be cool to ride in one of
those cars. Wow, I would really love
that. But yeah, the taxis are looking
like this now. But at least still
yellow. I have a question. What is
better here, the taxis or Uber? Like, is
it the same price? Pretty much the same.
>> Pretty much the same.
>> But you have to to to
>> to use the app.
>> To use the app.
>> Yeah.
>> And the yellow you just wherever you
are, if you see the light roof light is
on, you can just raise your hand.
>> So on on means empty.
>> Huh?
>> If the light is on,
>> that means if the light is the roof
light is on
>> Uhhuh.
>> that means is empty.
>> Oh, okay. Okay. And then I can just hail
it down. Yes. Okay, that's good. That's
easy then. Yeah. And there's a sign on
the traffic light saying this is a
gun-free zone. My first thought was,
shouldn't every place be a gun-free
zone? But then I remembered, well, this
is the United States where it is allowed
to own a gun. So, I think in theory,
everyone around here could have a gun
with them. I'm not sure if it's allowed
to like really carry it on you the whole
time, but it seems like at least here
it's not allowed because it is a
gun-free zone. To be honest, it is a bit
of a weird feeling knowing that every
person around here could potentially
have a gun. In my country, Germany,
owning guns is not allowed. So, I'm not
used to that. But on the other side,
that also means, of course, if something
happens, like, let's say you're in a
restaurant and somebody tries to rob the
restaurants or tries to rob the people
in there. If the the good people also
have a gun, then of course they can
defend themselves. Oh, and look at the
building. New York Times, a world famous
magazine, newspaper magazine. So, I
guess this is their headquarter then.
Wow, it's so cool to see so many world
famous places for the first time with
your own eyes. That's literally one of
my favorite feelings when I'm traveling,
like seeing places you only know from
movies or from YouTube videos. Here's
Okay. Yeah, that looks fine. Uh, can I
pay with card?
>> Yes.
>> Yeah. Your trip is $20 35 uh card and
then it's asking for a tip. I'm going to
give you a 30% tip. Okay.
>> Thank you so much, sir. Okay.
>> Okay.
>> Thank you so much.
>> Yes. Okay. In Pakistan, you say a
shuklia.
>> Shukria.
>> Shukria. Thank you very much. Okay. Have
a good day, sir.
>> Thank you, sir.
>> Bye-bye. All right. And yeah, that was
uh about 15 minutes taxi ride. And yeah,
we are not exactly at times square now
because uh yeah, the traffic is very
heavy here. And he said some roads
around here are blocked. But uh he said,
yeah, it's literally just one block
away. So, I'm just going to walk the
rest of the way. I have the feeling that
New York is also quite international.
Like one of the guys over there was uh
speaking Spanish and also the raers in
the diner earlier were all speaking
Spanish. A taxi driver were from
Pakistan and I hear many different
languages around me the whole time.
Probably many of them are also just
tourists from other countries. But I
think also the people living here are
very mixed mixed from different
countries, different regions of the
world. And no way are you kidding me.
I'm not joking. I literally just got a
pop-up notification on my phone. Check
it out. I'm not sure if you can see it
because of the sun. It's a news
notification and it's in German, but it
says shooting at New York Times Square.
What?
I'm literally right in front of the time
square now. And this is the the popup I
have here. Sham New Yorker time square
with teenager
pon.
going outside.
>> I'm literally a bit checking now. I was
literally just thinking about that
because the taxi driver told me be safe
when uh when I got out of the the car
and now I'm having this pop-up
notification here. Okay, so according to
the article here, there was a shooting
uh this early morning a few hours ago
and three people were wounded, but uh
luckily nobody killed. Oh, okay. Well,
that brings my mood a bit down to be
honest, but uh yeah, actually I see
plenty of police officers around. Seems
to be very busy regardless. So, uh yeah,
I don't think I should worry about that
now. Yeah. Oh, wow. What a pop-up
notification to get literally the moment
you're entering that place. But, uh I
want to enjoy that regardless because
this is one of my favorite moments
probably of the year. Seeing the time
square, the world famous time square for
the first time with my own eyes. And I
think here we are already. Look at that.
Welcome to the Time Square in New York
City. What a moment. Wow.
I'm feeling so happy. Oh, okay. I'm not
sure how big it actually is, but yeah,
Time Square is of course famous because
of all the the billboards here, all the
big screens with advertising on it. We
have a huge American flag over there as
well. But yeah, let's have a walk down
the area.
>> Just watch your video in Shanghai.
>> Oh, really?
>> I did. Yes. It's so nice to meet you.
subscriber.
>> My first time here. I just arrived.
>> Is it your first time?
>> Yes. The atmosphere like seeing this for
the first time with your own eyes.
>> It's amazing.
>> It's pretty crazy.
>> It's pretty cool. Yeah.
>> Well, enjoy. Welcome.
>> Thank you so much. Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you, too. What's your name?
>> I'm Tony.
>> Tony.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Thank you. Oh, you know what's
funny? There's an advertising up there
for the Thailand privilege visa. That's
not an ad I would expect to see here at
the time square. The Thailand privilege
visa is like a very expensive visa in
Thailand. which gives you the right to
live in Thailand for I think 5 to 20
years. Interesting that Thailand has ads
here on the time square. But yeah, look
at this. So many things going on. People
selling pictures, some uh some flowers.
You can get yourself painted here. So if
you saw my uh my video from Los Angeles
from a few weeks ago, we visited at a
Hollywood Boulevard in that video, which
is yeah, probably equally as famous as
the Times Square. But if I compare the
Hollywood Boulevard to this, it's way
busier here. Way more people, way more
things going on. So it seems like the
Time Square is the more popular tourist
destination compared to the Hollywood
Boulevard in Los Angeles. And here once
again, nobody seems to care about the
the red light. Literally nobody. Okay,
just following the crowd then. And yeah,
in case you are new here, this is the
second video of my series first time in
the United States. The first video was a
few weeks ago in Los Angeles. Any I'm
going to travel around the United States
in the next weeks. So yeah, feel free to
subscribe to follow the journey. Oh,
look at this. The famous naked cowboy.
>> You're the naked cowboy.
>> Apparently
>> world famous.
>> Just like the card says world famous.
>> World famous naked cowboy.
>> Wow. Oh wow. I'm feeling like I'm in a
movie. So you're here every day
>> just for 26 years, 8 months, and 14
days.
>> Really?
>> Yes.
>> So you are the
>> one of the eight blizzards. So you're
the the guy that Yes.
>> that I always saw in the movies. The
naked cowboys
of steel.
>> Thank you so much. Oh, that was a cool
moment. Yeah, maybe you you saw the
naked cowboy before. I think he was in
plenty of movies. I literally feel like
I'm in a movie right now. This is this
is amazing. And look at this. What's
going on here? So, I think this is like
the main area. Like the the big
billboard signs that you always see,
they are literally all around us. This
is crazy. I think I've never been to a
place with more advertisement around me
actually. Oh, actually, I would have
expected that he's asking me for a tip
or something. Like, he sang in front of
my camera. He gave me his card, but he
didn't ask for anything. So, very nice,
actually. This is a nice souvenir. All
right, we have some people doing a show
here. I think it's like a dance show.
>> Wow, it's very lively here. I'm a bit
overwhelmed to be honest, but I'm really
enjoying this moment. Definitely one of
my favorite travel moments of 2025.
I mean, just look at the view here. This
is a moment. Suddenly, I'm not feeling
tired anymore. Excitement gives me
energy.
[Music]
I'm actually not sure who is this guy.
If you know who that is, let me know. I
also think this place is a very popular
spot for local tourists. So you're not
only having foreign tourists coming
here. I think also Americans from other
regions of the country. Where are you
from?
>> Afghanistan.
>> Afghanistan.
>> Oh, your holiday here.
>> Just trip, you know, every 2 three days.
>> Oh, it's cool here, right?
>> Yeah. Also my first time here. Enjoy it,
man.
>> Okay. You too. Thank you. Bye-bye.
Bye-bye. All right. So now the thing is
my hotel is actually just right next to
Time Square. Actually, I think it's one
of uh these buildings here. So let me
find it. Oh, there's a very interesting
sign on the car. Something written in
Chinese. And then CCP not equals China.
I'm guessing the Chinese writing on top
of it means the same. That's a very
interesting sign to see here. And
there's another one. NCCP, no more
communism. Why are they protesting for
something related to China here? If they
are Chinese, I would understand. But why
would an American write something like
that on their cars? Here again, signed a
petition and CCP.
I'm seeing so many interesting things
here. This is a very happening place.
Okay, I can really say so far it really
meets my expectations. It is like I
imagined because I'm literally feeling
like I'm in a movie right now. Very
cool. Excuse me. Can I take a picture
with you? Of course. My first time in
New York. Very exciting to be here.
>> Picture. Thank you so much.
>> You take tips for pictures.
>> Can if you want in the guitar?
>> Yes, sir.
>> All right. Here we go.
>> Thank you very much. Nice to meet you.
>> Thank you. All right. Yeah, that was an
iconic picture. That was worth the money
for me. Happily gave him a tip for the
picture. By the way, if you want to see
some behind the scenes, some pictures,
some stories that I post, feel free to
check out my Instagram, Kenro on
Instagram as well. You want to post a
picture with him on my Instagram, leave
a comment there that you are coming from
my YouTube video.
I'm actually surprised to see this
people selling fake bags on the blanket
by the side of the road. To be honest, I
would have expected that that is not
legal here in America. But yeah, I do
feel that I'm getting tired. So, let me
find my hotel, which I think is uh right
here on the corner. And yeah, it's
literally the most expensive hotel into
which I ever checked in because I'm
paying $500 for a room there per night.
And I think one of the reasons why it is
so expensive is because of the view of
the room. So, let me check in and then
I'll show you what I'm talking about.
So, yeah, right next to Time Square here
is the entrance to my hotel, the Temple
by Hilton. All right. And here we are. I
think I have to take the elevator to get
to Hotel Sky lobby.
>> And then the lobby is upstairs, right?
Sounds easy. Thank you. All right. I
don't have to press anything. Yeah, I
literally can't press anything here. I
think only open door and hold door.
>> Hi. Check in area here.
>> Yes. Okay. By the way, that was
literally the fastest check-in I ever
had in a hotel. He said everything is
digital here. So, I didn't need to sign
anything. There were no paper printing
things, nothing. Everything digital.
That was a pretty quick checkin. And
yeah, now I'm really looking forward to
this room. You will see in a second why.
All right. So, let's see. Because I
thought, yeah, this is my first time in
New York. I dreamed of this since I was
a child. So, I am going to treat myself
with a very nice room. So, I think as
soon as we open this curtain, we're
going to see why this hotel room cost
$500 per night. Actually, let me tour
the room first. Actually, it's smaller
than it looked on the picture when I
booked it, but I think it's going to be
all right. The bed looks quite huge. I'm
going to give it a test in a second.
Then, we have a wardrobe area here. Do
you know what I like in hotels?
Wardrobes that are open like this.
Because often when the wardrobe closes,
there's a not so nice smell in there.
So, I really like wardrobe areas like
these. And then the bathroom looks
actually quite spacious. Toilet, shower,
sink area here. And then, yeah, the bed,
the desk right here. Let's quickly test
the bed and then we'll check out the
view. Oh, you don't believe how good
this feels after this long journey. Oh,
this is amazing. All right, but let me
figure out how to open the curtains. So,
probably I need to switch it or push
some but here we go. All right, let's
see. Please be as good as on the
pictures. Okay, the curtain slowly opens
up. This is like a like a cinematic
moment slowly revealing the view. Okay.
Okay. Okay. I'm going to duck down now
because we do have a Time Square view.
Time Square is literally down here. So,
the area we just explored, the most
famous place I would say in America,
Time Square. All these big LED plasma
screens right here. This is an amazing
view to have. And I can see over there.
I think that's New Jersey, the Hudson
River. And wow. And yeah, I'm going to
put on some clips now how this looks in
the night because I think the Times
Square view is especially nice to have
in the evening or after sunset. So, here
you can see how it looks in the night.
The view that I'm going to see here in a
few hours. Wow, what a journey it was to
get here. But I'm very happy and excited
to be in New York City now and in
America for the next few weeks. So, more
videos from America are about to come.
